Mikaela Ruth

The internet definitely makes the world a smaller place. And blogs, well then just make it that much nicer! It makes me laugh how I can know oodles about someones life, be inspired by them, but yet have never met them. And I think its great because it allows you see how things can be, and how other people are making things work. Todays blog I want to let you in on is a photographer from Canada. Now,I was a little late picking up on her journey and actually came across her via Jasmine Stars blog (she was one of her brides). But, I can honestly, whole heartedly say that I am glad I did. Mikaela Ruth  quite freely writes on her blog (something I want to aspire to) she writes with honesty about her photography, her life, being a newly wed and her faith. Aside from the blog writing she shows some of her fabulous shoots from weddings, boudoir, children and general life. If you are a photographer I know you will love this blog, if you just like a good read head over as well. And please leave her some  love & let her know how much you are loving her work!!

Karl and Jessica’s Wedding.

When I arrived at the Manor House, everyone was busy finalising the finishing touches to the ceremony room, except Jessica, she was starting to get ready for the fabulous day that was ahead. Karl and Jessica’s wedding was the perfect reflection of them both. The whole flow and feel of the day was natural, unforced, relaxed, charming and beautiful. Jessica had been collecting items for her vintage feel wedding for about 18 months and I can confidently say that it paid off. The attention to detail was so stunning, and personal.

Their reception room was filled with bunting and lace. Tulips were placed in mason jars ,placed on top of books that had been wrapped in brown paper to act as center pieces. China teacups with personalised tags acted as favours for the ladies and wooden name badges attached to wine glasses for the men. Just before the meal packages were given to one man from each table, the packages were personalised aprons – so they could carve the meat for the table!! I loved that idea..Oh and I couldn’t forget the desert. In stead of just the one  - they had a table. Yes, a table dedicated to desert. A little slice of heaven right there!!

Even though it was an early May wedding there was a slight chill in the air, but the weather stayed dry and Karl and Jessica showed me a glimpse of their love. As they laughed, embraced, talked and walked together I felt honoured to be able to document their day, but most importantly their love. Karl and Jessica, I cannot say enough nice things about you. Your genuine kindness and the way you are together is beautiful. And I know that you have a very beautiful marriage ahead of you.

Thank you.

Tasha xx

Happy Birthday.

I lose count of the things you do for me,the number of times you make me laugh, and the smiles we make. I like the fact that its me and you. I like the way we share jobs – you wash and I dry. I like the way we don’t have to speak to know what we mean. We get each other and I like it.No in fact I more than like it – I love it. You’re the one who spurs me on, who encourages me to take the steps I do. I’ve never spent as much time with a person ever and felt so happy, but I think that it just part of being with you. Happy birthday Jim, I hope this year – brings you everything you want, and here’s to many more years of me and you. xx

New reads.

I stood in the airport lounge and looked through the book section. I always travel with a book, even for a train journey, but especially when I’m taking a flight. The longer the flight sometimes the better it is, hours of undisturbed reading!! It’s all about the simple things. As I stood in front of the row of books, I quietly smiled at the amount of titles I had already read. Sad – I know. But that’s me, a total book-worm. Normally I read quite fast and finish books quite quick, but this last one has been on been for a while, however I have read a couple of books in between which could have been the cause for the slow progress. But I’m down to the last couple of hundred pages, so am hopefully going to be finished in the next couple of Days. The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett is such a good read. I wasn’t sure how I was going to take to it at first. But its written so well that it doesn’t take you long to love it. It a nutshell its about the building of a cathedral and the lives intertwined around it. However, when this finished I need a new one and my reading material needs replenishing. Does anyone know of any good reads? I love finding new authors, so please, pass on some titles!!

A change of office.

It seems to be at the minute that Im not standing stil. I seem to have a job list the length of my arm that gets replenished daily! But I woudnt really have it any other way. I consider myself blessed to have such a busy life. So as from today I am out of town for the next few days and just wanted to let you know. In case you were getting in touch… I am checking emails but it will be sparingly… So here’s to a fews days of a change of office..

Oh happy day.

This is probably one of the most interesting blogs I have ever read. Oh happy day –  Jordan- the creative force behind the blog –  moved to Paris with her husband and 2 children. She can create just about anything. This is the type of girl who you would love to have as a secret santa or to throw you a surprise party – or any party for that matter. She really is creative but fun with it at the same time. The kinds of girl that you want to be friends with – the cool, quirky arty type!

I actually came across her blog from another photographers site and I am so glad that I did.I go  back to this site every day. Are you throwing or party of fancy getting creative with some DIY? Thinking of something fun to make with the children? Scroll Jordans website and you will find plenty of ideas.  And whilst your there ( because once you do, you will be there for  a while) leave some blog love!

A family portrait.

When Kate and Sally first contacted me, they said they wanted to get some pictures done for their mums 60th of the grandchildren and her dogs. They say never work with children and animals, but that is two bits of advice I was {happily} ready to ignore.

We set off to Meanwood park for our session, and were blessed with the weather. To me working with children is more of a waiting game, then a stop and pose set up. Asking children to smile dosent often yield the best results. It definitely pays off to wait for the natural smile, when their having fun. It was so nice to spend time with them and see how close they are as a family.  And literally, as we were taking the last shot the weather  took  a turn on us and started to rain! Here a are few from the day…

I absolutely LOVE this last picture. Its chaos. Hair pulling, babies crying, dogs looking the other way… Family life! x Kate and Sally you have beautiful children!

Happy Tuesday.

Love from San Francisco.

On an unusually warm Spring day, a boy and a girl stood in front of their family and friends. With the exchange of words and the seal of a kiss they promised their forever. To each other.

When I received this postcard from San Francisco from Ian & Hannah, I smiled. Partly because I love that city so much. Partly because I love getting post of the good kind. But mainly, because I know that their the real deal and that where ever they are, their happy. I felt so honored to document their love, and I’m happy I can now call them friends. I’m looking forward to seeing what te future has in store for them x

Happy Tuesday xx

The Creative Type

I sat there for three evenings, watching, learning, writing plenty of notes and laughing. As I watched my  creativeLive course I was in my element. I came away full of new insight and my mind buzzing with  ideas with ideas for shoots. Not only that, I ‘m now a little more aware of how to approach details at a wedding or shoot the same way that an editor may want to see them. Using my 5 senses to really get a feel of the event, the atmosphere, the people, the details – the story!

I want to shake up my own little world, push the boundaries, become part of a creative team, have some fun in the process and find people looking to do the same. My strap line is ‘Lifestyle photography for the individual’ and that is what I want to maintain, push even further and build even more. I want to be the creative type. This is a message to remind myself of where I am now, but more to mark as a book mark for further down the road when I see the ideas and the work come to life.

Wednesday sharing from you….

So as usual it is Wednesday and normally at this point in the week I am sharing a website with you. This week I wanted to do something different, I wanted you to share  websites with me. Whatever type of website it is – it doesn’t have to be photography, I love finding new blogs of people who are passionate about what they do. And if that so happens to be your own blog, then cool! So  pretty please, leave the name of a website/blog below in the comments box.

Happy Wednesday!
